Located in the Charlevoix County in the state of Michigan, Boyne City is small city with a population of 3,735 (according to the 2010 census). It is located to the southeast of Lake Charlevoix.
The city was first established in 1856 but the population was not very high. When a post office was established in the city in 1869, the city gained more importance and more people started moving here. 10 years later, in 1879, an Inn was made in the city allowing travelers to stop by and take a good look at the small city. The status of a city was given to Boyne in 1904 and was incorporated in 1907.
Boyne City covers a total area of 14.04 square kilometers consisting of 10.52 square kilometers land and just 3.52 square kilometers of water. Boyne City is now home to 3,735 people. There are 1,635 households with 1,011 families in the city with a population density of 355.2 people per square kilometer. The 2,292 housing units in the city have an average density of 218 per square kilometer. The racial markup of the city, according to the 2010 census, is 0.4% African American, 94.9% White, 0.7% Native American, 0.3% from other races, 1.3% Latino or Hispanic, 0.1% Pacific Islander and 0.5% Asian.
