Located in the Emmet County in Michigan, Harbor Springs is a city and a vacation spot with a population of 1,194 according to the 2010 census. It is located to the north of Little Traverse Bay on the Michigan Lake. The name of the city is inspired by the historic Little Traverse Lighthouse, which is situated at Harbor Point.
Harbor Springs, once known as L’Arbre Croche, was established by the European-American who first settled in the area in 1847. The name was then changed to Little Traverse or Petit Traverse by French traders when they arrived. The city got is final name when more people from the eastern US started moving here. The city was given the status of a city in 1880.
People from all over the U.S. come to Harbor Springs to spend their vacations and weekends as the city has a lot to offer including many historic places. One of the most famous places in Harbor Springs is the Wequetonsing Resort, which was founded by lawyers/ businessmen Henry Brigham McClure and Henry Stryker III.
Harbor Springs cover a total area of 3.37 square kilometers all of which is land and no water. The city offers many amazing spots where you can spend your vacations or short weekends with your family or friends. You can go to the numerous golf courses, ride bikes on designated bike paths, hike with your friends, go boating and fishing etc.
Harbor Springs is home to 1,194 people including 294 families and 1,122 housing units. The city is beautiful with many spots where you can enjoy the natural scenic beauty and the calm environment. The climate, however, is not charming. In fact, it gets too hot in summers and too cold in winters. The harsh climate is what makes air conditioning systems necessary in the city. Without such systems, the weather could become unbearable for most people.
