Located in the U.S. state of Michigan, Mancelona is a small village in Antrim County that has an estimated population of around 1,390 (according to the 2010 census). Famous for its countryside appeal, beautiful weather year-round, unique cultural attractions, gorgeous scenery, and remarkable roads, Mancelona is a village that attracts dozens of tourists from all over the world. The history of the village goes back to the 1860s.
Mancelona Andress, the daughter of Perry Andress came to the undisputed area in 1869 when she was just four years old. Mancelona and her parents being the first residents of the town were known all around for their hospitality and love for the township. Soon enough, the village was named after Mancelona and in 1871, the town was authorized by the Legislature in Antrim County. It was during this time, people began shifting to the village.
Fast-forwarding to recent years, Mancelona has grown considerably. The village is best known for its annual buck pole, which is a deer-hunting contest that attracts hundreds of hunters from different states/cities. Mancelona is also known for hosting the annual “Bass Festival”. This four-day event featuring a flea market, a carnival for adults and kids, a Grand Parade, and various other community-related activities is held in the first week of June.
According to the 2010 census, there are almost 349 families, 518 households, and 1,390 people currently residing in the village, among which 1.2% are Native American, 0.1% are African American, 94.9% are White, and 0.9% are Hispanic or Latino. In terms of climate and weather, Mancelona doesn’t receive much rainfall. In summers, temperatures may rise up to 93°F, making it essential for homeowners to buy an air conditioning system to keep their homes nice and cool. In winters, the mercury levels drop to -18°F, hence making it crucial to invest in a heat pump system.
